Amsterdam: Rain, Bars & Boat Tour

Amsterdam — I’ve arrived.
The first mission? Get out of the airport and into the city as quickly and cheaply as possible.

We skipped taxis and jumped straight on the train, which takes about 30 minutes to Amsterdam Central and costs roughly €4–€5. Super affordable, super easy. From there, it was straight to the hotel to freshen up… then hit the streets.

First Impressions: Wet but Beautiful

We left a surprisingly dry UK only to land in a very wet Amsterdam. I’m talking umbrellas, ponchos, and sideways rain. Not exactly postcard weather — but somehow, the city still looks incredible.

Canals, historic buildings, boats everywhere… even in the rain, Amsterdam has a vibe. Big boats rolling past, people casually cycling through storms like it’s nothing, and streets that somehow feel familiar yet completely different at the same time.

First purchase of the trip?
A €7 umbrella — absolute lifesaver. The poncho wasn’t cutting it, and filming in the rain without an umbrella is impossible.

Day One: Bars, Games & Challenges

The plan for day one was simple:
bar hop and enjoy the city.

We kicked things off at a bar with a pool table. I confidently challenged one of the guys… and immediately lost. Then came an arm-wrestling challenge — which also ended in defeat. Lesson learned: the younger generation is built different.

Ls were taken. Pride was hurt. We moved on.

Thai Food & the Hot Chilli Madness

Eventually, hunger kicked in and we found a Thai restaurant. Drinks started flowing, food arrived from every direction, and then… chaos.

One of the boys decided it was a great idea to attempt a fresh hot chilli challenge. No hesitation. No fear. Just straight violence.

Watching his reaction was entertainment on its own — absolute madness.
You couldn’t pay me to try that.

Red Light District (PG Edition)

Later that evening, we wandered through areas close to the Red Light District. It was still early, so things were calm — but the atmosphere, lights, and canal reflections were unreal.

Some things are better left off camera, so we kept it PG and just soaked in the vibes. Amsterdam definitely comes alive at night.

Day Two: Rain, Shopping & Wandering

Day two started exactly how day one ended — rain.

I grabbed an Amsterdam hoodie from Primark (emergency purchase) and wandered the streets solo for a bit. The aftermath of the night before was visible everywhere — cups, bottles, evidence of heavy partying.

Despite the weather, walking around the city was worth it. From town squares to statues and grand buildings, Amsterdam has layers of history hidden in plain sight.

At one point, the wind nearly took my umbrella and my life with it — but we survived.

Boat Party on the Canals

Later, we regrouped and decided to take things to the water.

A canal boat tour turned into a full-on vibe. The guide was hilarious, drinks were flowing, and the rain finally gave us a break. Different wristbands meant different perks — and let’s just say, we were well looked after.

Cruising through the canals while learning about the city (and drinking) is easily one of the best ways to experience Amsterdam.

Final Thoughts

Amsterdam surprised me.

Yes, it rained.
Yes, umbrellas were working overtime.
But between the nightlife, food, architecture, canals, and energy of the city — it delivered.

Even soaking wet, Amsterdam still knows how to show you a good time.
